Our offices have been established for over 17 years in Lanzarote and the experience we have gained during this time has given us a unique insight into people wishing to relocate to our sunny & tranquil island. Of the many clients we have dealt with a proportion have come here to retire having probably spent many happy vacations in the past years, but an equal amount have made the move looking for the many opportunities that exist to live and work here and install their young families in an environment which they believe will be far superior to their existing lifestyles in the UK, Ireland or other Northern European countries. The temperate climate of the island has a major influence, the weather is without doubt more unsettled in the winter months but even during our shortest days its still light till 6.30/7.00 in the evenings and most people are still walking around in the daytime in shirtsleeves and summer dresses. The cost of living is cheaper with much lower house rates, water bills etc. and you can still eat out regularly at a fraction of the cost and the general atmosphere on a small island is obviously far more laid-back. We don’t have to put up with traffic jams, blocked motorways or the kind of violence that is now commonplace in many European countries, sure we have some crime on the island but its basically minor break-ins which unfortunately are normally directed against the tourist population, street mugging and violent assault are virtually unheard of and because the local authorities treat any crime as a serious offence against the person our police force per capita of the population is three times higher than the UK. Enough of the serious stuff, when moving to a holiday island you have to contemplate if you wish to live among the tourists in the resorts or if you want to live in the country areas, remember country areas here normally means within a 15 or 20 mins traffic free drive of the resorts or the capital of Arrecife. The advantages of investing in non-resort property are manyfold, firstly prices are normally far lower meaning you get more for the monies you invest, your plot size will no doubt be somewhat bigger which is a great advantage for those who like a decent size garden and the ability for ones children to have room to play without needing to go out on the street. The country areas that expatriots settle in can be basically scheduled into a 15km zone encompassing on the south coast with Puerto del Carmen in the middle. Within this zone various villages have become centres for new residents and these include Macher, Tias, Oasis Nazaret, Guime, Las Breñas, La Asomada, Conil & Tinajo, and we have tried to define in fairly simple terms what each of these areas offers.
