Countryside Locations - basic descriptions
Macher Mainly larger country houses with great views of the sea and countryside, within 5 mins drive of Puerto del Carmen, 10 mins to the airport and 15 mins to Arreccife. There are a few small shops for daily top-ups as well as restaurants and bars; most people would drive 10 mins to Tias for supermarkets, doctors, hardware and other utility shopping, and the zone benefits from the boating marina of Puerto Calero and a new golf course is now under construction between Puerto del Carmen and Tias. Perfect for all families.
Tias This is the main town of the municipality where the local council is based and as mentioned before it has a good selection of shops, restaurants, bars and a medical centre. The residential properties here include a complete spectrum and include apartments, town houses, bungalows and large villas, and Tias is the local cultural centre with among other things its own theatre. Good values and central location typify Tias and its certainly popular with our new residents including British, Irish, German & Scandinavian as well as Canarian & Spanish people; there are local Spanish & a private British schools. Ideal for young families with children.
Oasis de Nazaret A purpose built and designed residential area of mainly larger individual bungalows and houses mostly with decent plot sizes for good size gardens, mixed population of Spanish/Canarians, British, Germans, Italians, Irish & Scandinavians . Great views from most of the properties here and the village has its own minmarket selling a complete range of goods including European foodstuffs, there are a number of restaurants and bars in the village and the old capital of Teguise is only 5 mins drive away for a much greater selection of other commercial activities. Zone benefits from Costa Teguise and Famara beaches only 10 mins drive, golf course 10 mins and capital of Arrecife and airport about 15 mins, English & International private schools 10 mins drive and its still only 25 mins to Puerto del Carmen. Ideal for all including families with young children.
Guime Hillside village above the airport comprising individual bungalows and houses, many with good views of the sea, there are a couple of small bars/restaurants and a village shop but most people would select to drive down the hill to Playa Honda commercial zone, 5 mins away, where there are hypermarkets and a great variety of shops including the ‘out of town’ shopping centre Deiland Plaza with a multi screen cinema, bowling alley and even a BurgerKing; Playa Honda also has a really good beach, a promenade and many other facilities. Driving distances Airport 10 mins, Arrecife 15 mins, Puerto del Carmen 20 mins., resident population Spanish/Canarian, British, German. Zone benefits are shopping areas of Playa Honda and a country location while still being close to all amenities. Ideal for all including families with young children.
Las Breñas Close to the municipal centre of Yaiza and midway between Puerto del Carmen & Playa Blanca, this is a hillside village and many of the individual houses here have larger plots and good views of the sea and mountains, only one shop and one restaurant in the village but everything catered for in Yaiza which is 10 mins drive. Variety of resident nationalities including Spanish, British, Germans & Scandinavians. This is close to the atmosphere of an original Canarian village, not far to the black beach of Salinas and about 15 mins drive to Playa Blanca. Zone benefits - total tranquility so probably more suitable for non children families.
La Asomada Hillside village above Macher and only a short drive to Puerto del Carmen, mostly larger individual properties with bigger plots and good views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Only one small village shop and no bars or restaurants although are only a 10 min
driving distance away in Tias. Mostly Spanish/Canarian residents but a few British & Germans. Zone benefits - great views and tranquility, probably more suitable for non children families.
Conil Another hillside village, this time above Tias, 5 mins drive, mainly larger individual properties with decent size plots many with really great views of countryside and sea, one big village shop that sells everything but all other facilities only a short distance away in Tias. Conil has in recent years become popular with more affluent local residents as it is so close to everything but is still like a traditional Canarian village. Zone benefits - close driving distance to all amenities in Tias & Puerto del Carmen beaches/ nightlife only 10 minutes drive - suitable for all including families with young children.
Tinajo Situated in the north west of the island, about 20 mins drive to Puerto del Carmen & Arrecife, very much a Canarian village with mainly local population and a variety of local shops, bars & restaurants. A mixture of properties here with small units in the town itself and much larger houses with good size plots constructed on the outskirts. There are also a number of small villages in this area where new residents have invested over the recent years. Zone benefits - close to the sports complex of La Santa with lagoon beaches, small local villages with fish and Canarian restaurants, tranquil locations - suitable for all including families with young children.
